1000 Friends of Wisconsin envisions a landscape where: natural, historic and archaeological resources are protected; cities are vital; healthy ecosystems are maintained; and all citizens enjoy clean air and water and opportunities for outdoor recreation. This landscape includes:
Rural areas with economically viable farms and forests, supported by the healthy native biological diversity that makes them possible;
Small urban areas which maintain their unique character and identity;
Large urban areas which are vital centers of commerce and culture and which contain walkable downtowns and neighborhoods;
Public parks, trails, hunting grounds and natural areas.
We recognize the value of planning and zoning conducted at the local level that is consistent with a statewide policy framework -- drafted from common goals, developed by the people of Wisconsin. Such a legal framework, rooted in a culture of conservation, will protect the unique Wisconsin landscape for present and future generations.
