We all need places to call home. Whether a CEO of large corporation or a trash collector, each of us needs places we can afford to raise our families. The stigma attached to the term "affordable housing" is a misplaced one – each of us buys a home we can afford, whether that home costs $75, 000 or $775,000.

Unfortunately, as explained by Bruce Katz from the Brookings Institution, "Affordable housing has been demonized in the public mind. It is largely associated and saddled with a series of negatives – crime, distressed neighborhoods and declining property values. These public images persist even though many empirical studies have refuted these negative claims and after the federal government has made major efforts to demolish troubled public housing developments and stimulate the development of economically integrated communities." The following images illustrate how mixed-income housing can successfully contribute to the overall health of a community.
