The traditional neighborhood with its porches, sidewalks, corner stores, small neighborhood parks and schools that kids can walk to is rarely built anymore. One reason for this is that local codes require large lots and strictly separated uses and dont require sidewalks and other public amenities. Yet, traditional neighborhoods are better for the environment because they use less land per house and allow their residents to drive less. |
