1000 Friends of Wisconsin was formed in the summer of 1996 by a coalition of conservationists, farmers, local officials, planners, scholars, sportsmen, business leaders and progressive developers. We work through two partner organizations: 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, Inc., and the 1000 Friends of Wisconsin Land Use Institute. 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, Inc., is responsible for reform of land use policies at the state and local levels.
The Land Use Institute focuses on research, education, outreach and dissemination of information on land use issues.
The work of each organization complements the other by addressing the aspects of public advocacy and outreach that are necessary to ensure effective land use reform in Wisconsin.
