Picture Smart Growth

In the 1950s, our country established zoning policies that separated land uses. Because of these policies, many of us live an unpleasant car-ride away from where we work, shop and play. Communities throughout the country recognize the environmental and human health threats imposed by our dependence on the car and have opted to look to our past for lessons on how to build in the future. These communities are building homes closer together and closer to daily destinations such as schools, parks, grocery stores and restaurants.
